Smokey Blue® combines creamy blue cheese, roasted nuts, vanilla-like sweetness, fruit, gentle smoke, and savory depth. Serve with pears, figs, toasted hazelnuts, honey, bacon, dark chocolate, grilled steak, or crusty bread. It is also excellent crumbled over salads or melted onto burgers. Pair with Port, Syrah, Zinfandel, stout, porter, brown ale, or a rich hard cider.

Rogue Creamery has been making cheese in Southern Oregon since 1933 and has become one of America’s best-known artisan blue cheese producers. Smokey Blue® is one of the creamery’s most distinctive creations, combining its expertise in blue cheesemaking with an unusual smoking process. The cheese begins as Rogue Creamery’s Oregon Blue before being carefully cold-smoked over Oregon hazelnut shells, creating an American original with a flavor profile unlike conventional blue cheese.

Made from pasteurized cow’s milk and aged for approximately 90 days, Smokey Blue® retains the creamy complexity of a traditional blue while gaining another dimension from the hazelnut-shell smoke. Cold smoking allows aromatic smoke to penetrate the cheese without cooking or melting it. The resulting character is more nuanced than simple smokiness: Rogue Creamery describes notes reminiscent of vanilla, roasted nuts, and fruit alongside the cheese’s mild blue character. The combination creates a layered cheese in which smoke, sweetness, creaminess, and blue mold remain remarkably balanced.
